Started because I wanted to listen to the news while I was working. I wanted only the headlines and I wanted to listen to them. I couldn't find anything that would do this, so I decided to create it myself.
It was a web app for listening to the news. You could subscribe to topics and hear each headline as soon as it was published. It did one thing and did it well.
The news came from the RSS feeds of various news outlets. Each item went through minimal processing to fit TalkingFeed's format and was pushed to the app in real time. The client was a simple Angular app that received the news over Server-Sent Events. The headlines were converted to audio using Azure's neural voices.
Soon after I started working on this project, I realized that I could expand it to other types of feeds. I started adding support for Twitter, Reddit and YouTube, but other work took priority and I never finished it.
Update: TalkingFeed was succeeded by News, a more polished version with more features.
